On October 29, 2024, CONNECT Newton and the Newton County Industrial Development Authority—alongside partners like Georgia Piedmont Technical College, Newton County School System, and Walton Works—hosted a Regional Career Fair at Newton High School, bringing over 30 local employers face-to-face with job seekers in an effort to boost workforce development and economic opportunity.

The event welcomed both high school students and community members to explore open positions and career paths within local industries ranging from healthcare and manufacturing to bio-pharma. Employers such as Takeda, Becton Dickinson, General Mills, Piedmont Newton Healthcare, and Axis Occupational Health were on hand actively recruiting, meaning attendees could even be hired on the spot.

Impact on Local Workforce and Economic Growth

With more than 100 job seekers and 20-plus companies participating, the fair offered practical benefits: resume reviews, on-site interviews, and direct industry exposure. As one workforce development leader reflected after the event, “seeing people realize that they can obtain great careers … is the highlight every time we host one of these events”.

Importantly, hosting the fair at Newton High School helped reduce barriers for local youth by making the environment more accessible and familiar—a strategic move praised by organizers as fostering comfort and confidence among students.

What’s Next—Building on Regional Career Fair Success

This Regional Career Fair continues a series of collaborative workforce initiatives in Newton County and neighboring Walton County. Such events rotate locations and target different demographics—from senior students to graduates—to sustain momentum in filling local jobs and supporting career readiness.

Community members and employers alike are encouraged to stay informed about spring and fall career events through CONNECT Newton and local school and economic development channels. These fairs not only address current job market demands but also strengthen long-term regional economic resilience.
