Rural Zone Designation in Covington

Starting January 1, 2025, the City of Covington in Newton County will benefit from its new Rural Zone designation, awarded by Georgia's Department of Community Affairs. This five-year program offers significant tax incentives to boost job creation and private investment in downtown areas. These credits encourage diverse business activity and provide financial support to stimulate economic development in Covington’s historic downtown.

KEY FEATURES INCLUDE

Job Tax Credit

$2,000 per new full-time job created, with at least two jobs required.

Investment Credit

Up to 25% of property purchase costs, capped at $125,000.

Rehabilitation Credit

30% of qualified building rehab costs, up to $150,000.
