Floyd Street Infrastructure Replacement Improves Local Quality of Life

Rural road infrastructure loss showing pot holes.

Covington has commenced a comprehensive Floyd Street Infrastructure Project, replacing aging water, sewer, stormwater, and gas lines, alongside full roadway repaving—demonstrating the City’s commitment to modern infrastructure and robust service delivery.

The initiative, detailed in Covington’s FY 2025 budget, allocates $9.1 million toward multi-department utility improvements on Floyd Street, funded through SPLOST, enterprise fund reserves, and general balances . It builds upon earlier stormwater rehabilitation completed at Floyd Street and Ramsey Drive intersections by A&S Paving, providing a strong foundation for the broader infrastructure replacement.

The project centers on replacing outdated water and sewer systems—identified in the City’s comprehensive plan as essential upgrades—and enhancing stormwater and gas infrastructure upgrades on floyd street. Following underground work, A&S Paving will resurface the road, which is anticipated to reduce future repair needs and enhance safety, reliability, and aesthetics for residents and commuters .
