Fellow scholars Kane Whitaker, Ryan Crawford, and Josie Jones also earned honors for their innovative projects.
In literary competitions, Newton County students continue to shine. Mikayla Solomon of Liberty Middle School and Brooks from Mansfield Elementary were celebrated as regional winners in the Young Georgia Authors writing contest.
Additional academic honors include Matthew Lynn of Eastside High, who earned the Distinguished Gifted Teen Awardfrom the Georgia Association for Gifted Children, along with a $500 scholarship. Athletic Achievement and Team Spirit
Newton County’s student‑athletes are also excelling on competitive stages. Multiple basketball standouts were recognized for regional performance, including All‑Region honorees from Alcovey High and Eastside High School.
The year’s standout achievement came from the Newton High Lady Rams basketball team, who captured the 2025 GHSA Class AAAAAA State Championship. Their remarkable turnaround from a 3‑22 season two years prior is a testament to dedication, teamwork, and powerful leadership under Coach Jawan Bailey.
Their victory energized the community and reflected the resilience and pride that define Newton County.
Creative Excellence and Arts Recognition
The district also earned national acclaim in the arts, receiving the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation — a recognition given to only about 1,000 school districts nationwide.
“This honor reflects our commitment to ensuring every student has access to high‑quality music education,” shared Fine Arts Specialist KiTonya Morrow, with Superintendent Dr. Duke Bradley praising the achievement as a reflection of the district’s dedication to well‑rounded learning.
With thriving programs in music, theater, and visual arts, Newton County continues to nurture creative talent and support well‑rounded student development.
